Acrylic and fire
Acrylic does not develop smoke when on fire and the vapor is categorized as non-toxic. The vapors
is not considered to be more toxic than fumes from wood and paper. But acrylic burns quickly
and is not self-extinguish. When Induflex lasercut acrylic, which is in principle a controlled
burning, it never takes place without supervision. There are several examples of
machines broken into flames from laser cutting acrylic sheets.
One can distinguish extruded acrylic from cast acrylic from the way it burns. Extruded drips
by burning; cast does not.
Flammability is categorized as UL 94 HB.
