Dimensional stability of acrylic
The dimensions of acrylic does not change significantly over time, hence many measuring instruments
is manufactured in acrylic. But attention is required when used in conjunction with other
materials, because acrylic expands a lot with rising temperatures (acrylic expands 5 times
more than steel). An acrylic pole at 1 meter becomes 0.7 mm longer if the temperature
raises 10 degrees. If acrylic is fixed in a steel frame, there is a high probability
that the acrylic will crack if the temperature changes.
